Sharepoint on vmware

Hi,

Anyone got any experiences of running Sharepoint on vSphere? We're just deploying sharepoint and it would be great to discuss with others who are already running the system? Our main area to investigate will be running SQL on a VM.

Any thoughts?

Twitter in Education?

Several publications posted articles about the use of Twitter in education. Campus Technology and Chronicle of Higher Ed looked at a Faculty Focus study that concluded that only about 5.1% of educators use Twitter as part of instruction. The Houston Chronicle noted that several school districts in the Houston area are planning to try out Twitter this year. And the New York Times reported that teens are not driving Twitter usage.

Hi all,

It was nice meeting you at the Summit this week. I wish I could have met more of you. J

A topic of discussion among some of you was - how to get educators to use technology in their classrooms. I ran across this article and wanted to share it with you.

There's also another spin to this article, which I find very interesting because my two kids learn very differently "Teaching to different minds." How can technlogy aid in educating gifted, traditional, and special education learners?

What are your thoughts, or what have seen that you can share on these subjects?

Although many educators realize technology's enormous potential to help them differentiate their instruction so that all students can learn, regardless of students' needs, abilities, or learning styles, it might be hard for them to find concrete applications of this approach to emulate in their classrooms. But in a Jan. 28 webinar from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), experts provided several examples of classroom projects that can help all students learn while keeping them engaged.

Dear colleagues!

First of all I want to thank Steve, Ken and Alessandro for the discussion we had in Russia concerning new Microsoft products for education. It was definitely interesting and useful for Russian partners.

Our company works in Russia and CIS countries not only creating and integrating solutions based on MOSS for educational institutions, but also helping faculty use Microsoft products and technologies in their everyday life. We hold special study program for faculty on effective ICT usage with state educational certification. Also we’ve developed «ICT in education» Guidebook – 120 page guidebook with examples of effective Microsoft technologies and products usage in teachers’ everyday work. Together with Microsoft Russia we’ve created special program on effective ICT usage for faculty and now we’re working on scaling that program to K-12 segment. More than 5000 faculty already passed the courses and certification.

Our experience shows that working with education (selling, deploying solutions etc.) becomes much easier when you have such methodologies and courses which can help them understand, feel and start using new technologies and solutions more effectively. When working with HiEd this need of methodology and additional training on new products is felt much stronger.

That’s why in the eve of new products release (Semblio, Uluru etc.) I am constantly looking for an answer to the question: How should we (local partners) prepare to the new challenge?

Hi All:

As part of our new community we hope to provide up to 30 partners the ability to receive a free two-page case study or a two-page Partner Profile that can be used in their own marketing and sales activities as well as possibly being put up on Microsoft.com/education.

The idea behind the Partner Profile is to create a document that you could use to showcase what you do and why a customer should pick your company when it comes to using Microsoft solutions within education.

My question to you is this, what type of information do you think would be most relevant? What would you want to make sure a potential customer knew about you?

mobile learning, anyone?

We have been getting a lot of interest, and publicity in the UK around Mobile Learning - particulary around a product we sell that allows teachers to create learning materials that run on WindowsMobile devices.

The UK government recently invested £6million in encouraging colleges to buy mobile devices for their students. There are a few specialist "m-learning" companies forming here, in the UK. Over 1/4 of all colleges are running m-learning trials at the moment.

Are there similar trends in other partner market places?

Higher Ed Reauthorization in US

Hi everyone, I thought this might be a good topic to kick off in a forum. For all partners working in the US - have you read the over 1000 pages of the reauthorization act? Anyone want to comment on it? We are attending a meeting later this month in Washington DC to understand the full ramifications on our student information systems particulary financial aid applications. I would be interested in hearing what others find..
