Testing Live edu

Hi,

I'm a french Partner and wanted to try live@edu to present it for my clients.

To do that , I would try open new live@edu domain , but , it was closed quickly by Microsoft.

This domain was created just for this test and I understand MS can't find any educationnal information on it.

Is there a solution to show this application to my clients without configure their domain ?

I have approximatively 10 schools who can be interressed by OL this year , but I prefer let them try on a "fake" domain before offer them installation and maintenance service.

Sorry for my English, I 'm just able to read technical docs , not correctly write in this language.

Live@edu and *.live sites

We have deployed Live@edu to a number of K12 schools recently. The general feedback has been great; teachers like Outlook Live, Skydrive and especially Live Messenger. They also like the new Office live and are warming up to Live Groups.

Our biggest challenge is with grouping contacts by class for user convenience.
A typical teacher teaches many classes; each class has up to 40 students. When he wants to share a document or send an email with his class; a teacher needs to enter all 40 e-mail accounts for that class. This is quite a tedious process.

For Outlook Live, we can use EWS to create "Class List" (aka distribution list).

We do not have a good solution for Office live and other *.live sites; the "Edit Permission" offers to show the teachers MSN's contacts; not Exchange GAL contacts. If the teacher is using a non Live@Edu Live ID account (say Hotmail), he can go to contacts.live.com; create a group, and import the contacts via a CSV file. For a Live@edu account; the user is redirected to Outlook Live if he goes to contacts.live.com.

To encourage Live@Edu usage, we really need a convenient way to populate the teacher's (and student's) Live contacts list.

Does any one has a solution to this? Perhaps allow access to contacts.live.com?

Hello,

I have downloaded 'SLK-66637' and tried to run the application in my local PC. The application is running more or less fine but I am getting some issues that I really want to get rid of. I am outlining all issues that I want to solve.

1.For the scorm courses that include any quiz, I have to submit the quiz questions and the result must be displayed on the main screen. Now the problem is, it is displaying the totalpoint for the Scorm 1.2 course but failed to display for Scorm2004 course. For Scorm2004 course no data is inserted into the table called - 'AttemptItem'.

2. Along with the totalscore, I want to display the completion status and success status(passed,failed) on the screen. How can I do that in the project that I am working in.

3. How the data(regarding the status of the quiz like 'passed', 'max val','score','time taken')is actually inserted into the respective tables in the database. Which function is involved in this process.

I will be highly pleased to know the answers. I am really stuck and my deadline is on this friday.

I have just been reading about semblio and I think it looks like something that is perfect for a project that I am working on.

We are in the process of setting up a learning platform for the delivery of course contents to students. The learning platform is MOSS 2007 based and I am curious about how we could deliver semblio modules using sharepoint. Is this possible? Would they run within the browser or would the student have to download it and therfore have .Net framework etc.

Sorry if these are obvious questions, I've only just stumbled on the technology and it looks facinating...

Based on my conversations with Partners in the last year here is how I compiled the types of services that Partners are offering to customers that are directed related to Live@edu:

1. Standard Deployment

Enrollment Form Information	The partner will fill all the enrollment form to the customers, buying the domain if the customers does not have one and having all the information necessary to fill the form.
Domain Configuration & Setup	The partner will configure the domain (customer to provide account and password from the registrar) and setup the mx record redirection & etc
Admin Account Settings	Partner will set up the Admin account (more than one) and establish the process of engagement
Settings in OL (Groups, Calendar and Resources, Disclaimers, Mail Contacts, Basic Reports, IP Whitelisting)	Partner will help customers setting up Outlook Live
User Account Creation (CSV Import)	Partner will create the accounts using simple provisioning methods (ECP or CSV import)
User First time activation	Partner provides services to help IT Pros to reach to students (mail templates, readiness seminars, webcasts, etc)

2. Advanced Deployment

Mail Flow Configuration	Partner create the Accepted Domains / Shared Domain configuration. Any other more advanced Domain setup that is needed
Control & Compliance (Powershell)	Partner configure the policies that are adequate to the customers need (Closed campus, supervision, etc)
Single Sign-On Configuration (SSO Toolkit)	Partner configure the Single Sign-On experience for the customer.
Portal Integration (EWS Impersonation)	Partner creaates Portal integration using EWS Impersonation -
Automated Identity Management (w/ILM)	Partner installs and configure ILM (Edu version) synchronizing on-line accounts with local directory service.
Directory Integration (Powershell)	Partner creates synchronization using Powershell scripting
Migration	Partner provides migration services from different legacy systems into Outlook Live

3. Development

Learning Management System Integration	Partner has a Learning Management System that is integrated with Live@edu or have the capability of working with the customer to create a custom integration in the system that the customer is using
Student Information System Integration	Partner has a Student Information System that is integrated with Live@edu or have the capability of working with the customer to create a custom integration in the system that the customer is using
Custom Portal Integration	Partner has a Web Portal Service / Solution that is integrated with Live@edu or have the capability of working with the customer to create a custom integration in the system that the customer is using

Semblio Open Source Activities

I'm kind of diving in almost immediately after downloading Semblio and having a bit of a play, and I'm curious whether there have been any community initiatives to develop/share "generic" activities. The kind of thing that springs to mind are basic controls that mimic some of the LCDS templates, such as "Click tables" and "Media With Keypoints"... fairly generic functionality, but beyond what is in SDK samples etc?

Just looking at the posts on this forum (and the paucity of them) I sense that Semblio is fairly well in its infancy, and that some might be playing a waiting game regarding a Silverlight version? I suppose what I'm really asking is, am I correct that the general lack of resources/discussion etc surrounding Semblio are down to these factors (to me it is simply something that I downloaded after playing with LCDS, and I can see its potential, but am a bit lost as to where it sits right now).

By the way, add me to the "Silverlight is a must" vote which seems to be a fairly universal sentiment. To me, when I think of distance learning scenarios via the web, the system requirements of WCF as opposed to Silverlight delivered in a browser seem to be a real inhibiting factor.

Connecting Semblio to a tracking web service

Does the Semblio SDK provide a mechanism for tracking student performance? My company generally builds all of our content in compliance with the SCORM specification. The next version of the spec (SCORM 2.0 under development by the LETSI organization) will include content tracking via a web service. I am very interested in connecting Semblio content to a SCORM 2.0 tracking service and building a SCORM compliant "out of browser experience" for my learners.

I work in a 500 person company that builds training products and we have thousands of activitys already developed in our SQL Server library with rich metadata. I am wondering how much effort it would take me to transform it into a format that could be delivered with the Semblio runtime.

Semblio SDK and MultiPoint SDK

Hello!

I decided to combine MultiPoint and Semblio SDK's in one project.

I want to have an activity that supports multiple mouses.

In order to do this I have created activity with MultiPoint controls (textbox and button).

I compiled activity, than I packed it into semblio file with standard sample packager (which comes with Semblio SDK).

After that I tried to play my activity with standard sample player.

At the beginning there were 2 mouses on the screen, but when activity tried to load MultiPoint controls I got exception:

System.Security.SecurityException: "System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089".

I analyzed stack trace and I got information that were an error with demanding such permission:

When I remove multipoint controls from activity this exception disappears.

So as it seems to me problem with partial trust of activity.

Can you advise me what to do?

Silverlight version?

A Silverlight version of Semblio would make this a viable platform for cross-platform and light deployment scenarios. Having .NET 3.5SP1 and local resource storage requirements is a significant barrier that prevents many, including me, from spending serious time examining and using this tool.

Many of our corporate clients do not have .NET 3.5, let alone SP1 installed locally. Most K-16 clients have a mix of Windows and Macintosh labs and laptops. It is a rare situation where installation of both software and framework are allowed by teachers or content providers without a significant amount of effort and time getting through IT red tape.

With the death of Authorware and the emergence of WPF and XAML for a new age of UI goodness, this toolset could fill a gap and really take off. Removing the technical barriers and requirements of WPF/3.5SP1 would be a huge help in this regard. It might start as "Semblio Light" but a community or mini-industry could come up around it.

Several publications posted articles about the use of Twitter in education. Campus Technology and Chronicle of Higher Ed looked at a Faculty Focus study that concluded that only about 5.1% of educators use Twitter as part of instruction. The Houston Chronicle noted that several school districts in the Houston area are planning to try out Twitter this year. And the New York Times reported that teens are not driving Twitter usage.

How to add SLK funcionality on E-Learning Portal?

Hi,

FInally, I succeeded in installing SharePoint LearningKit. Now I have to connect the E-Learning Portal (which is not SLK!!!) we use in school with SLK. I have to login on the portal, choose a subject, and then do a quiz implemented in the SLK. I noticed that I can connect SLK with the Portal, but about the opposite I did not find anything...

I am new in SLK, and I have no idea what to do. I wonder should i change something in the web.config file in our portal. But if I should change it, what should i change ?

I would be very grateful if someone help me in connecting the Portal with SLK, by giving me some advices and tips :)
